Register once. Use it across different routes to work.

NRIC is a voluntary national registration route for independent carers working on a self-employed basis. It gives you a current registration status that people arranging care and referral organisations can check.

Independent carers find work in different ways — through private arrangements, personal recommendations, community networks, local directories and partner platforms.

NRIC is designed to sit alongside those routes. It gives you one registration route and a consistent assessment guide you can use across different ways of working.

Why it matters

Independent carers often build work through trust, relationships and word of mouth. Even so, people may still want reassurance that you have the right checks in place and care offer the appropriate care options.

NRIC is intended to give you a simple and consistent status tool you can use across different routes to work, instead of having to explain or repeat the same information in different places and different care packages to suit each individual situation for clients.

How it works

Registration is completed online. You will be shown what is needed before you start, and you can complete the process at your own pace.

Once approved, you can access proof of registration for use with platforms, directories and people arranging care.

Your registration can be used across different arrangements. Registration is renewed annually.

If you already have the key documents ready, registration can usually be completed quickly. You can also save your progress and return later.
